Projects

I get to play with a lot of musicians and bands in St. John’s. This is a sample of the groups I work with most often.

Tweeter

I’m a big fan of electronic music. I love how producers are able to create and manipulate sounds to put them together in musical ways that often could never exist in nature. Erin Best and I recently started working together to create Tweeter. With support from MusicNL we wrote and produced 3 demos and will be playing our first show in June. Stay tuned to find out more.

The Skylarks

My own pet project of largely instrumental dance music from the last 100 years or so.

The Brad Jefford Trio +

A very unique jazz inspired improvisation group. Brad is perhaps St. John’s most dedicated and innovative jazz man. His compositions and arrangements are innovative, challenging and full of energy.

Idlers

Idlers are full tilt-energy. Part dance, part world music and truly indie, Idlers have defined their presence on stage and in the studio through overflowing energy and social-consciousness. Idlers show is a genre-bending musical carnival, moving from town to town, bringing joy to crowds’ feet.

Chris Kirby and the Marquee

He’s a witty, spitey, pasty white kid from the woods of Newfoundland whose style is simply addictive. With his upcoming record, Wonderizer, Chris Kirby gets down to bidness playing funky piano, saucy guitar, and singing as if the fate of his own mother hangs on every word. Uniquely described as a cross between Stevie Wonder’s soul and Jamiroquai’s funk, Chris Kirby and his band The Marquee deliver a fun, high-energy live performance every night, and his funky grooves spread throughout crowds like wildfire.

Jazz East

St. John’s based 18-piece big band.

The Ducats

Lew Skinners legacy of a rock band. It was one of my first experiences playing popular music, and I’m thrilled to still be on stage with them.

In the 1960’s, a group of young teenagers started a little band in the small town of Portauxbasques, Newfoundland.  Named after box of candy, (mispronounced at that) the band achieved almost immediate success, far beyond their own expectations. After few line changes they ended up rubbing elbows with the likes of Leslie Gore, Scotty Moore and the stars of Motown.

In The Flesh?
St. John’s based Pink Floyd Tribute band.

The Offering of Curtis Andews

Curtis Andrews writes and performs some of the most unique sounds. A blend of jazz, African and Indian influences all come together. I don’t get to play with his group often enough, he has moved to Vancouver, but I’m really proud to have played on his first album!
